Galante is the El Born address of Grupo Varela, a Barcelona family restaurant group that started in 1969 with Restaurante Marisquería La Xarxa. José Manuel Varela took the helm from his parents Manuel Varela and Maite Gago in 2004, and has built the group to four addresses in and around Barcelona: Varela (Casa Varela, Carrer de Montcada, 22), La Puntual (also in the Born), La Xarxa (the original), and L'Estupendu (Badalona). Galante at Carrer de la Princesa, 53 is the group's newest addition. The group's philosophy: 'love of product and things done well', with a kitchen centred on quality ingredients and authentic Catalan and Spanish flavours.
