Park
Parc de la Ciutadella
A 31-hectare park on Barcelona's northeastern edge built on the site of a military citadel that Philip V erected after the city's 1714 siege. The fortress was demolished in the 19th century, and architect Josep Fontserè redesigned the grounds as a public park beginning in 1872, further transformed for the 1888 Universal Exposition. It contains the Catalan Parliament, the Barcelona Zoo, a lake, and the monumental Cascada fountain (1882–1888), on which a young Antoni Gaudí collaborated.
