Mundial Bar was first opened in 1925 on Plaça de Sant Agustí Vell by Miquel Tort Robiralta, and ran under the Tort family for nearly a century as the neighbourhood's seafood tapas bar at popular prices.

Background

About Bar Mundial

The Story

Mundial Bar first opened in 1925, when Miquel Tort Robiralta raised the shutter on a small Plaça de Sant Agustí Vell establishment that, thanks to its proximity to the newly remodelled port, quickly became the neighbourhood's seafood bar at popular prices. For nearly a century the Tort family ran the place, and its walls filled with framed boxing photos and memorabilia from its decades as a meeting point for the local boxing club. After closing in 2021, the bar was acquired by Grup Confiteria and reopened in September 2025, keeping the historic façade and interior intact.

The Cuisine

The kitchen leans into the bar's origins as the neighbourhood's marisquería: fried Andalusian-style calamari, cod fritters, clams in green sauce, shrimp omelette, sardines, salted shrimp, and a daily seafood stew. A short showcase of classic tapas (anchovies in vinegar, Russian salad, smoked cod foie on toast) rounds out the menu, with most plates in the €4–€15 range.

The Team

Mundial Bar is operated by Grup Confiteria, the Barcelona hospitality group founded by Enric Rebordosa and Lito Baldovinos around La Confiteria in 2014, whose portfolio also includes Sagarra, Bar Michigan, La Font del Gat and the cocktail bars Paradiso and Dr. Stravinsky.

Experience

Bar Mundial Dining Experience

Mundial Bar keeps the feel of a no-frills neighbourhood tapas bar: colourful tiled walls, a long bar, framed boxing photographs from its decades as a boxers' hangout, and round marble-top tables. It is informal, loud when busy, and designed for shared plates with a beer or a vermut.
