Bar Calders is a corner bar at Passatge Pere Calders and Carrer Parlament, in Sant Antoni, open every night of the week since 2011.

Background

About Bar Calders

The Story

Bar Calders opened in March 2011 on the corner of Passatge Pere Calders and Carrer Parlament, in a ground-floor space that had previously housed Bar Paloma, a greengrocer and a bar called El Vaticano. The name is a tribute to Pere Calders, the Catalan writer exiled to Mexico after the Spanish Civil War, a reference echoed on the menu, where a section of Mexican-inspired dishes is labelled 'plats de l'exili mexicà' (plates of the Mexican exile).

The Cuisine

The menu is built around vermouth and aperitif culture: house vermouths served on draft, tinned seafood (anchovies, mussels, razor clams), croquetas, bikini sandwiches, potato tapas, and a homemade Russian salad. A Mexican section (nachos, quesadillas, enchiladas) and a short list of pizzetes and torrades round out the food offer. House vermouths and a small selection of Catalan wines are also available to take away through the online shop.

How to Book Bar Calders

Booking

Bar Calders welcomes walk-ins and reservations seven nights a week. The compact interior and terrace on Passatge Pere Calders fill quickly during peak hours, especially Friday and Saturday, so advance booking is recommended for larger groups. Reservations are handled through the contact form at barcalders.cat or by phone.

Experience

Bar Calders Dining Experience

The interior is a compact, tile-floored room lined with framed artwork and Estrella Galicia signage, centred on a short bar and a handful of marble-topped tables with red wooden stools. The main draw in good weather is the terrace on the pedestrianised Passatge Pere Calders, with tables set out under parasols branded with the bar's name. The mood is unpretentious and neighbourhood-first, more aperitivo than restaurant.
