Background

About Maleducat

The Story

Maleducat opened in June 2020 near Sant Antoni market, founded by chef Víctor Ródenas and brothers Ignaci and Marc García, who handle the front of house. The name, Catalan for 'badly educated' or 'ill-mannered', was an affectionate insult each of the founders was called as a child, and the irreverence carries through into how they run the restaurant: a short, seasonal menu, communal sharing plates, and a neighbourhood energy that has built a loyal local following. Sommelier Alejandro Icart, formerly of ABaC, manages the wine programme. Víctor Ródenas trained at DiverXo in Madrid, Via Veneto, and Caelis in Barcelona before opening Maleducat. The Michelin Guide lists it as Selected and the Repsol Guide recommends it.

The Cuisine

Maleducat describes itself as a casa de menjars, a Catalan concept for a neighbourhood eating house that blends vermouth-bar warmth with serious cooking. The menu is short and seasonal, built around Catalan sea and mountain produce, and designed entirely for sharing. Michelin inspectors single out the rice with red Palamós prawn tartare and pig's trotter carpaccio, a dish that pays homage to Els Tinars, the legendary restaurant in Llagostera. Other signatures include hare rigatoni and spicy beef tendon stew with piparra peppers. A tasting menu, 'At your service, chef!', gives the kitchen full control.

The Team

The restaurant is run jointly by chef Víctor Ródenas and brothers Ignaci and Marc García. Ródenas trained at DiverXo, Via Veneto, and Caelis before founding Maleducat and won the Cordon Bleu Madrid Haute Cuisine Promise award. Ignaci and Marc García manage the dining room, creating a front-of-house experience that mirrors the kitchen's warmth and directness. Sommelier Alejandro Icart, formerly of ABaC under Jordi Cruz, oversees the wine list.
