Maca de Castro is chef Macarena de Castro's creative Mediterranean-Mallorcan tasting-menu restaurant in Port d'Alcúdia, built around her own garden in Sa Pobla.

Background

About Maca de Castro

The Story

Maca de Castro is the fine-dining room of chef Macarena de Castro, in Port d'Alcúdia on Mallorca's north coast. She started here at the family's Jardín as a waitress in 1996, took over the kitchen in 2003, and in 2012 became the first woman on the island to win a Michelin Star. The restaurant sits on the first floor of a villa-style building and shares the premises with the more relaxed Jardín Bistró downstairs.

The Cuisine

It's one creative, Mediterranean tasting menu, no à la carte, and it changes constantly with the season and the harvest. Most of the produce comes from the island: the local fish auction, small Mallorcan producers, and Maca's own garden in Sa Pobla, which she's kept since 2016. The guiding idea is "come cerca, llega lejos", eat nearby, go far. The menu currently runs at 165 euros with an optional wine pairing at 110, but check the site for current pricing.

The Team

Macarena de Castro leads the kitchen. Beyond Alcúdia she runs other projects under her group, including Andana in Palma, and in 2024 she was named president of Eurotoques, the European chefs' association. She's been a vocal advocate for local produce and sustainable cooking, with much of the restaurant's sourcing tied to her own garden and island producers.

Experience

Maca de Castro Dining Experience

Maca de Castro's dining room is on the first floor of a villa-style building, modern, intimate and pared-back, with no background music so the focus stays on the food. A terrace and garden dining stand out, alongside a strong wine list, and the seasonal, ingredient-led tasting menu changes with the harvest.
