Background

About Sagar

The Story

Sagar means ocean or water, and the restaurant takes the element's qualities, transparency, purity and calm, as the spirit of the room: a tranquil 'little piece of India' in the Guindalera. The team is young and comes from different parts of India, which is how the menu ranges across the country's cooking, from traditional recipes adapted to the present.

Set Menus

The Menú Sagar (€24.95 per person) lets the table pick two starters, such as samosa, onion bhaji, chicken pakora, dal soup or cheese rolls, and two mains, such as butter chicken, vegetable korma, lamb karahi, chicken tikka masala or chicken bhuna, with cheese naan, rice, a drink and dessert or coffee. The vegan Herbs & Spices (€25) brings samosa and mushroom tandoori, then aloo gobi and dal tadka with basmati and chapati. Bombay Walks (€34.80) adds chicken tikka and malai tikka, then butter chicken and a garlic-chilli lamb balti, with a tasting of desserts.

Getting There

It's on Calle de Alonso Heredia, in the Guindalera area of Madrid's Salamanca district.

Nearby

Guindalera is the quieter, more residential half of the Salamanca district, east of Avenida de América rather than in the boutique core. The eating along streets like Biarritz and Cartagena is local and unshowy, closer to a neighbourhood canteen than the glossier dining nearer Calle de Serrano.
