Background

About Purnima

The Story

Purnima Indian Cuisine is one of two Indian restaurants under the same banner in Madrid, with Udaipur Indian Cuisine at Paseo de la Castellana 74. It bills itself as authentic Indian cooking in the city centre and is open every day for lunch and dinner.

The Cuisine

The kitchen works through North Indian classics, from palak pakora and vegetable and lamb samosas to tandoori chicken.

The Carta

Starters cost €6.50–9.50: palak pakora, vegetable or lamb samosas, cheese and chicken masala rolls, onion bhaji and prawn puri, plus salads and dal or chicken soup. From the tandoor: chicken tandoori marinated in yoghurt, ginger and garlic (€16.50), chicken tikka, lamb tikka and tandoori king prawns. The curries include chicken tikka masala in the Punjabi style, a mildly spicy madras, lamb rogan josh and chicken with aubergine, and the vegetable dishes run to baingan masala, paneer makhani, mushroom aloo, slow-cooked dal makhani and a mango vegetable curry.

Set Menus

The menú ejecutivo is €17, Monday to Friday 13:00–16:30 on working days: a starter such as samosa, onion bhaji or palak pakora, a main such as tikka masala, beef dhansak or baingan masala, basmati rice or naan, a drink, and dessert, coffee or tea. The €40 tasting menu, for the whole table, brings a selection of starters, a choice of curries and vegetable dishes, pilau rice or tandoor bread, and dessert or coffee.
