The Story
La Cocina de Frente is one of seven addresses Grupo Bulbiza runs on the boulevard of Calle de Ibiza, alongside Casa Julián de Tolosa, Bistronómika, Caiño, La Retasca, Maison Glacée and El Privado. It's the group's casa de comidas: a small, characterful room whose premise is to make the simple extraordinary.
The Cuisine
Traditional Spanish home cooking with a modern-creative edge; the cocido is served as a multi-course sitting.
Simplicity and Flavour
The house motto is simplicity and flavour, with time and taste as the protagonists and dishes meant to warm you up. The carta travels through Spain's popular recipe book and is refreshed every week with off-menu specials depending on the season and the market. Among the small plates are a San Sebastián-style gilda, anchovy with ricotta and lemon on crisp bread, María's ropa vieja croquetas (the recipe of a much-loved former colleague), porcini croquetas and a freshly made tuna salad with potato, egg, Manzanilla olives and piparras that's served until it runs out. From the pot come the house cocido madrileño, served in courses, and stews; pisto manchego and calamares en su tinta are other regulars. The patio carries a 10% supplement, and there's a private room for groups.
