The Story

Contracorrent opened in Fort Pienc as a small bar devoted to following the seasons and respecting what the market offers each day. Chef Nicola Drago brings Italian roots to a Catalan pantry, and the name itself, 'against the current', captures the approach: no fixed carta, no trend-chasing, just ingredient-driven cooking that changes with the daily shop. The team has since opened a second address, Contracorrent Bistró, in Gràcia.

The Cuisine

The kitchen blends Mediterranean tradition with Italian sensibility, turning out tapas and platets driven by whatever the local suppliers and market have that day. The menu is not fixed: dishes rotate with the seasons and the shop. Natural wines, curated by sommelier Anna Pla, lean toward small local producers and are poured by the glass or bottle. A short and long tasting menu offers the fullest expression of the kitchen's daily vision.
