The Story

Can Xurrades was founded in 1997 by chef Rafa Martinez and Paqui Esteban on Gran de Gracia as a traditional Catalan tavern. In 2012, they relocated to Carrer de Casanova and reinvented themselves as a gastronomic steakhouse focused on premium aged meats. The restaurant is one of the few worldwide certified to serve Raza Sayaguesa beef (Bos Taurus Ibericus), a heritage breed from the Sayago region of Zamora. Chef Martinez brings over 40 years of culinary experience with a speciality in ancestral meat maturation techniques.

The Cuisine

Chef Rafa Martinez specialises in premium aged meats using ancestral maturation methodology. Signature dishes include the chuleton espectacular macerado, steak tartare of ox sirloin, and the Estrella Damm Best Tapa winner -- trinxat de butifarra in beer reduction with caramelized onions, foie shavings, and crunchy cecina.
