Background

About Berbena

The Story

Berbena opened in the Vila de Gràcia neighbourhood as a deliberate tribute to the verbena, Barcelona's traditional open-air street festivals. The name signals the spirit: informal, festive, and rooted in the neighbourhood. From a tiny dining room on Carrer de Minerva, the team has built one of the most-talked-about small restaurants in Barcelona, earning consecutive Michelin Bib Gourmand distinctions and a Repsol Recomendado. With an open kitchen and only a handful of tables, the experience is direct and personal. The group also runs sister restaurant Pompa, which hosts groups of nine or more.

The Cuisine

The kitchen works with seasonal Mediterranean ingredients and a close network of local suppliers, including ice cream from the neighbouring Parallelo gelateria and bread baked in-house. Dishes are structured around small plates available in half and quarter portions, designed for sharing and exploring broadly across the menu. Repsol describes the offer as 'small plates of hedonistic inspiration complemented by a complete selection of cheeses and house-made bread.' The crème fraîche ice cream with olive oil and salt is the signature dessert. Note: the kitchen cannot adapt dishes to vegan diets.

The Team

Per Guía Repsol, the kitchen is led by Lucca Lanzara and Soledad Lema as jefes de cocina, with Arnau Bàguena as dining room director and Gonzalo San Martín as sommelier. The wine programme is taken seriously: the restaurant maintains a dedicated wine contact email (vins@berbenabcn.com) and asks guests to refrain from wearing perfume out of respect for the wine producers. Groups of nine or more are directed to sister restaurant Pompa.

Berbena Dining Experience

Berbena is small, informal, and intensely neighbourhood. The open kitchen gives the dining room a lively transparency, diners see the cooking as it happens. Two dinner seatings per evening keep the pace intentional rather than rushed.
