Background

About Bardeni-Caldeni

The Story

Bardeni-Caldeni has been a family-run meat bar since 2005, led by chef Dani Lechuga, his wife Maria Lluïsa, and a loyal kitchen team. The restaurant has earned the Michelin Bib Gourmand and the Premi al Tractament de la Carn 2024 from Premis Montagud, as well as the Cuiner de l'any 2011 and Cuiner Jove 2010 distinctions. The name 'Bardeni' came before 'Caldeni,' the fine-dining sibling that has since been separated. Today Bardeni operates as a specialist meat bar with an interior designed by Lázaro Rosa Violán.

The Cuisine

Bardeni-Caldeni specialises in premium dry-aged meats served in an informal, focused setting. Michelin inspectors highlight the Angus steak tartare Caldeni style and recommend always asking for the daily suggestions of special veal cuts. The menu is all about meat: cured Angus beef picanha, Angus beef Nebraska fillet (€36), special onglet selection (€25), oxtail and truffle cannelloni, and meatballs dry-aged with romesco. A minimum of two dishes per person applies. No spirits or liqueurs are served, a deliberate choice by the team.

The Team

Dani Lechuga leads the kitchen with Víctor and Jorge alongside him. Lechuga was named Cuiner Jove (Young Chef of the Year 2010) by the Acadèmia Catalana de Gastronomia and Cuiner de l'any (Chef of the Year 2011) by El Periódico at the Fòrum Gastronòmic. In 2024 he received the Premi al Tractament de la Carn from Premis Montagud. His wife Maria Lluïsa is part of the team in a restaurant that the family describes as 'very personal.'
