About Bar Torpedo

The Story

Bar Torpedo opened in December 2018, created by chef Rafa Pena along with partners Juanlu Perez and Biel Gavalda. Pena, a self-taught chef who trained at Neichel (2 Michelin stars), El Bulli, and Martin Berasategui, runs the acclaimed Gresca restaurant (2 Soles Repsol). He won the 2023 Premi Nacional de Gastronomia of Catalonia. Bar Torpedo was born from a simple frustration: after 12-hour shifts at Gresca, Pena couldn't find quality late-night food in Barcelona. He created a place where restaurant industry workers could eat excellent food after midnight.

The Cuisine

The kitchen serves gourmet sandwiches and fried snacks using premium ingredients. The burger features aged Galician beef (two 70g patties) on artisanal bread from Forn Sant Josep, with bio Gouda and Cheddar. The bikini de pastrami de lengua uses croissant bread with beef tongue pastrami and herb mustard. Other signatures include Kentucky fried quail, soft shell crab sandwich, meatball sub, shrimp croquettes, and the Crack Pie dessert inspired by Momofuku. Natural wines are a passion of Pena's, with an extensive by-the-glass selection.

The Team

Chef Rafa Pena brings serious fine-dining credentials (Neichel, El Bulli, Martin Berasategui, Gresca 2 Soles Repsol) to this casual late-night format. Partners Juanlu Perez and Biel Gavalda handle the operations. Interior designer Maite Fuentes of Alapar Estudio created the retro 1980s aesthetic.
