Bar Nuri is a revival of the original Bar Núria, a 60-plus-year-old Poblenou family restaurant now reinterpreted at Rambla del Poblenou 34. The kitchen serves the signature recipes of founder Nuri herself - who took over the original Bar Núria kitchen at age 24 without any formal training, cooking from recipes learned at home.

Background

About Bar Nuri

The Story

Bar Nuri is a revival of the original Bar Núria, a family restaurant in Poblenou that gave the Familia Nuri group its name. At only 24 years old and without any formal hospitality training, a woman named Nuri took over the kitchen of Bar Núria, cooking from recipes she had learned at home from her mother and grandmother. More than 60 years later, the family has brought that soul back to the Rambla del Poblenou as Bar Nuri - a restoration of the old Catalan-tavern format with recipes from her original kitchen, reinterpreted for today. The Familia Nuri group also runs Nuara (Port Olímpic), Xiroi and Arrozal.

The Cuisine

The kitchen is Catalan and Mediterranean, anchored in rice dishes (the 'Paella with History' category), slow-cooked stews, and signature plates the Nuri family has cooked for generations. Standouts include veal fricandó, beef cheek in wine with 'carquinyolis' crust, meat cannelloni, grilled octopus with mashed cabbage and potatoes, stone bass with baked potatoes, creamy lamb paella with caramelised piquillo peppers, paella with squid, cuttlefish and Iberian bacon, and a seafood solidarity paella (€0.50 per order donated to SJD Pediatric Cancer Center Barcelona). Paellas are minimum 2 persons, priced per portion. Starter category 'Our Dishes' spans coca with vine tomato, Juan Manuel Iberian shoulder, picanha steak tartare toasts, Iberian ham croquettes, grilled cockles with 'Getaria potion', and open omelettes.

The Team

Bar Nuri is run by the third generation of the Nuri family and is one of four restaurants in the Familia Nuri group. Sister venues: Nuara (Port Olímpic), Xiroi and Arrozal. The kitchen team works from the original Nuri family recipes - recipes that founder Nuri herself learned at home from her mother and grandmother before taking over the kitchen of the original Bar Núria at age 24. The service style is unhurried neighbourhood-restaurant, with continuous lunch-to-dinner service.

Bar Nuri Dining Experience

Bar Nuri has the unhurried pace of a family restaurant that has been doing the same job for sixty years: classic tablecloths, family photos on the walls, unhurried service, and the low hum of a lunchtime crowd made up of both neighbourhood regulars and Poblenou workers on a break.
