Background

About Bar del Pla

The Story

Bar del Pla opened in 2008 as the second project of Jaume Pla and partner Jordi Palomino, replacing their previous restaurant Repla. They wanted a casual gathering place with professional-quality cooking, a diverse natural wine list, and accessible prices, a place that could weather the economic crisis while staying true to good food. Located in a historic space with traditional Catalan vault ceilings on Carrer de Montcada, one of the Born's most storied streets, the restaurant quickly became a neighbourhood institution. It was famously named a favourite of Rosalía by the Repsol Guide.

The Cuisine

The kitchen serves market-driven tapas built on Catalan and Spanish foundations with inventive touches and international influences, particularly Asian. The daily-changing menu emphasises seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Signature dishes include the roasted meat caneloni, mushroom carpaccio with wasabi vinaigrette, beef and foie tartare, and the suckling pig sandwich. The wine programme is a defining feature, over 100 labels with a strong emphasis on natural, biodynamic, and organic wines, including local Catalan producers and French imports. By-the-glass selections rotate every two weeks.

The Team

The kitchen is led by chef Jordi Peris, who brings together traditional Catalan technique with modern creativity. Owner Jaume Pla oversees the restaurant alongside partner Jordi Palomino. The wine programme is anchored by sommelier Sergi Ruiz, winner of the 2014 Nas d'Or award, leading a team of four sommeliers passionate about natural and biodynamic wines.
