Valldemossa

A hillside village (elevation 499 m) centered on the Royal Charterhouse, originally a royal palace donated to the Carthusian Order by King Martin the Humane in 1399. Composer Frédéric Chopin and writer George Sand spent the winter of 1838-39 there, and Chopin completed his 24 Preludes during that stay; his Pleyel piano is displayed in the former monastery cells, now a museum. Population was 2,038 as of January 2025.
