Background

About Mikuna

The Story

Mikuna is chef Luis De Los Ríos's own restaurant, its name the Quechua word for food, for the body and the soul. He was born in Chimbote, north of Lima, and grew up cooking alongside his mother and grandmother, both cooks. He opened Mikuna after working his way through kitchens in Peru and Madrid, including Tanta under Gastón Acurio.

The Cuisine

The carta is short and built on Peruvian tradition, guarding the flavours of northern Peru, from ceviche to anticucho, then meeting them with Asian seasonings and Mediterranean ingredients. The venue names its cocktails as part of that harmony.

On the Carta

The dishes the restaurant puts forward run from Peruvian classics, ceviche, causa, ají de gallina and arroz con pato with confit duck and salsa criolla, to the crossover plates, such as carabinero dumplings with coconut foam and Thai red curry. Its motto is 'tradición y mezcla', tradition and mixing, and the cocktails are designed to go with the food. Book online or on 916 05 90 31.

Mikuna Dining Experience

The room works for groups and families, with a terrace for warmer days. The venue leans on its own cocktails as part of the pairing rather than an afterthought, matching them to the plates the same way it matches Peruvian tradition to notes from other kitchens.
