Background

About La Mulata Latina

The Story

La Mulata Latina describes itself as the work of two families with a shared love of cooking, and it takes its name from Latin culture and its diversity.

The Cuisine

The menu is Latin American, with a special focus on signature burgers made from premium meat, fresh ingredients and homemade sauces.

Cuban Plates and Sharing

The house plates lean Cuban: rotos mechados, homemade fries and fried eggs with 'grandma's' shredded beef (€11.50 or €15.50), an XXL 28 cm Cuban sandwich of pork roasted low for seven hours (€13.95), and tacos of ropa vieja made to 'abuela Celia's' recipe. For four there's 'Los Rotos Cubanos' (€110), with shredded beef, roast pork, fries, eight eggs, two starters, bread and four drinks. To share: garlic prawns, huevos rotos with ham or bacon, a tortilla with caramelised onion, chicken fingers with chive mayo, and croquetas of Iberian ham, oxtail or octopus (€6.50 for three).

Burgers, Toasts and Breakfast

The burgers are the house's stated speciality, led by a triple smash of three 80 g patties of Ávila veal with cheddar, bacon and egg (€18.50), all served with homemade fries. XXL toasts on artisan bread run €9.95 to €12.95, from avocado and tomato to smoked salmon with Philadelphia or chicken with cheddar and caramelised onion. Breakfast starts with toast and coffee from €4.50, and there's a brunch plate of potatoes, fried eggs, bacon, fruit, cake and orange juice for €15.50.

Experience

La Mulata Latina Dining Experience

The venue calls itself cosy and family-run, and the setup backs that up: a terrace, room for groups, cocktails and vegetarian options on the menu. It's pitched as somewhere to settle in rather than grab and go, the work of two families around signature burgers and Latin American plates.

Getting There

La Mulata Latina is on Costanilla de San Andrés, in the Palacio barrio of Madrid's Centro district, part of the La Latina neighbourhood.

Nearby

Palacio is the grand, historic western edge of the centre, wrapped around Palacio Real de Madrid and Plaza de Oriente. The eating runs from tavern cooking that has not changed in generations to small rooms doing something quieter and more modern. Teatro Real and Jardines de Sabatini set the pace, which is slower here.
