Background
About El Espigón
The Story
El Espigón has been serving Andalusian seafood since 1985, its own site says, with the sea as its whole theme. There's a second El Espigón in Seville; the Madrid room is in Tetuán.
The Cuisine
Andalusian, and pointed at the coast. The house speciality is fried fish done the southern way, the fritura, backed by shellfish and marisco, arroces and fideuà, fish of the day and grilled catches. Traditional recipes and fresh product are the pitch.
The Frituras
Frying fish the way it's done on the Andalusian coast is the house speciality: boquerones victorianos and cazón en adobo (€15.40 each), tortillitas de camarón by the piece, potera squid rings, puntillitas from Isla Cristina, baby sole, Motril red mullets and glass shrimps with fried eggs. To start there's Tartessos acorn-fed Iberian ham, Santoña anchovies, octopus four ways, ham or carabinero croquetas, fish soup and a RAF tomato salad with ventresca.
Shellfish, Fish and Rice
Shellfish is sold by weight or by the piece: Arcade oysters, Huelva white prawns, cigalas, carabineros, national lobster and cañaíllas from Isla Cristina. The fish runs from dorada and corvina from Isla Cristina to urta a la roteña, cod pil-pil and turbot or sole by the 100 g, and there's aged beef too. Rice dishes, for two or more, include arroz a la marinera, lobster rice and a carabinero-and-prawn paella. Group menus start at €52 with wine included.

El Espigón Dining Experience
The whole place is built around the sea, from the decor to the plates, in the style of an Andalusian marisquería. It's a sit-down restaurant with private rooms for events, a terrace, and a menu wide enough to run from a plate of fried fish to a whole grilled catch.

Nearby
Castillejos is northern, plain and residential, and the restaurants are the reason to be there rather than the scenery. The cooking is honest and regional, at prices that would be higher further south. Estadio Santiago Bernabéu and Cuatro Torres Business Area loom over the whole area.
