Hola Coffee is a specialty coffee shop on Calle del Doctor Fourquet in Lavapiés, holding a Solete in the Guía Repsol. It roasts its own beans and keeps a rotating line-up of origins, poured in its own ceramic cups, with a small counter of banana bread, cinnamon rolls and sponge cake. The room is tiny, with a few stools, and prices sit on the higher side; there's a second café on Calle de Lagasca.

¡Hola!

Background

About Hola Coffee

The Story

Doctor Fourquet 33 is where Hola Coffee started. Founders Pablo Caballero and Nolo Botana met as students in Barcelona in 2006 and both ended up in speciality coffee, Pablo at Toma Café in Malasaña from 2012, when the idea barely existed in Madrid. They began working together in 2014, and in late 2016 started roasting 'nomadically', renting other roasters' machines on the outskirts of Madrid and bagging the coffee themselves. This first café opened in March 2017, when half the city was still asking what speciality coffee was. It holds a Solete in the Guía Repsol.

The Cuisine

Speciality coffee first, from Hola's own roastery, with a rotating selection of single origins alongside house blends such as Lucero (Brazil and Peru), made for the milk-based drinks Spain still favours. A few bakes (banana bread, cinnamon rolls, sponge cake) sit on the counter, and seasonal signature drinks push into alcohol-free cocktail territory.

Getting There

Calle del Doctor Fourquet 33, 28012, in Lavapiés, Centro. Lavapiés is a steeply layered corner of central Madrid where the cooking comes from everywhere at once, small rooms and honest prices, filled by regulars rather than reservations. There's also a second café on Calle de Lagasca and a roastery on Pedro Díez.

Nearby

Lavapiés is a steeply layered corner of central Madrid, a tight grid of narrow streets where the cooking comes from everywhere at once. The rooms are small, the prices are honest, and the good ones fill with regulars rather than reservations. Museo Reina Sofía and CaixaForum Madrid sit uphill from it, El Rastro at the bottom.
