Background
About Planta Baja
The Story
Planta Baja opened in 2021 on the ground floor of Hotel Primero Primera, a boutique hotel in the Les Tres Torres neighbourhood owned by the Perez-Sala family. The building has been the family home since 1955, when it was built by Carlos Perez-Sala. After a full renovation in 2011, the family converted the residence into a 30-room hotel, and a decade later added the restaurant. The name 'Planta Baja' simply means 'ground floor' in Spanish.
The Cuisine
Chef Armando Alvarez serves seasonal Mediterranean market cuisine with a focus on local, proximity products and restrained creative touches. The short carte changes with the seasons and spans cold preparations (oysters, Cantabrian anchovies, marinated anchovy with tomato), sharing plates (Iberian ham, bravas, croquettes, potato tortilla), starters (burrata, salmorejo, foie gras terrine, sirloin carpaccio, steak tartar), mains (grilled seabass, low-temperature cod, cuttlefish and crayfish rice, lamb terrine, sea-and-mountain pig trotters with blue shrimp, beef tenderloin) and homemade desserts. Around 35 EUR per person without drinks.
The Team
Chef Armando Alvarez, originally from Venezuela, leads the kitchen. He also runs Capet in Ciutat Vella and Petit Capet in Gracia. Bar manager Roger Gallifa Monferrer curates the cocktail programme. The restaurant is part of Hotel Primero Primera, owned by the Perez-Sala family. Google reviewers give it 4.6/5 from 342 reviews.
