Background
About Pinotxo Bar
The Story
Pinotxo Bar's story begins at La Boqueria, where Juanito (Juan Bayen Guardia) ran what became one of Barcelona's most mythologised eating spots for decades. Standing at the bar inside the Boqueria, he would greet every customer, market workers, early-morning revellers, international food writers, chefs on days off, with the same warmth and a plate of whatever was best that day. The bar became globally famous, included in Barcelona best-of coverage around the world. After the Boqueria tenure ended, Pinotxo relocated to the Mercat de Sant Antoni, maintaining its essence, bar format, market food, traditional Catalan dishes, in a new, larger space.
The Cuisine
Pinotxo Bar serves traditional Catalan market food: hearty, unfussy, ingredient-led. The kitchen changes daily based on what comes through the market. Signature dishes include callos (slow-cooked tripe), cap i pota (a Catalan stew of pig's head and hoof, seasoned with paprika and chickpeas), garbanzos guisados (stewed chickpeas), and the daily market fish, battered, fried, or pan-cooked depending on the catch. Breakfast is also a mainstay: eggs in various preparations, market pastries, and café amb llet. Average spend is around €25 per person.
The Team
Pinotxo Bar is run by its kitchen and bar team, who maintain the traditions of the original La Boqueria location. The bar format, standing at the counter, watching the kitchen move, ordering from whatever is ready, remains unchanged. The service is warm and efficient, typical of a working market bar that has been feeding Barcelona since before most of its clientele were born.

Experience
Pinotxo Bar Dining Experience
Pinotxo Bar is a standing bar, no pretension, no tablecloths, no menus. You walk in, find a space at the counter or one of the three high tables, and order from whatever is cooking. The atmosphere is what Barcelona's market culture is supposed to feel like: workers from the market, foodie visitors who know, regulars who have been coming since the Boqueria days, all jostling at the same counter. The kitchen is open, the plates come fast, and nobody sits for longer than they need to. The food is the point, not the decor. It is one of the most authentic eating experiences left in the city.

Pinotxo Bar Location & Neighbourhood
Getting There
Pinotxo Bar relocated from its historic home at La Boqueria to the Mercat de Sant Antoni, the beautifully restored 19th-century iron market on the Eixample-Raval border. The address is Carrer del Comte d'Urgell 1, at kiosks 18-21 on the market's outer ring, a short walk from the Sant Antoni metro station and five minutes from Las Ramblas. The Sant Antoni market has become one of Barcelona's most vibrant neighbourhood hubs, and Pinotxo's presence here adds to a growing concentration of quality eating around the market perimeter.
Nearby
Sant Antoni sits on the border of the Eixample and El Raval, defined by the magnificent 19th-century Mercat de Sant Antoni, one of the city's great iron-and-glass market buildings, and the Ronda de Sant Antoni that marks the edge of the old city wall. The neighbourhood has undergone significant gentrification since the market's restoration completed in 2018, with a cluster of natural wine bars, creative bistros, and casual restaurants establishing themselves around the market perimeter. Pinotxo's relocation to this neighbourhood placed it at the centre of one of Barcelona's most dynamic eating and drinking areas.
