Background

About Lomo Alto

The Story

Lomo Alto opened in 2016 as a premium steakhouse concept by Joan Subirats Berenguer, the industrial entrepreneur behind the SB Hotels chain and El Nacional Barcelona. The nearly 1,000 sqm space was designed by celebrated interior designer Lazaro Rosa-Violan, who created a distinctive butchery aesthetic with 55,000 white tiles and visible aging chambers. The concept spans two floors: LomoAlto upstairs for fine dining steaks and LomoBajo downstairs for casual burgers and pepitos, with Andy Warhol art decorating the walls.

The Cuisine

Lomo Alto is dedicated to premium dry-aged meats, working with 12+ cattle breeds including Rubia Gallega, Alistana Sanabresa, Frisona, Wagyu, and Angus. Meats are aged from 20 to 365 days in visible on-site chambers and grilled over four different types of charcoal. The menu features rib-eyes priced by weight and breed, Galician Blond Ox T-bone aged 180 days, ox steak tartare, and the Lomo Alto Experience tasting menus. Beyond meat, the kitchen offers grilled turbot, Galician octopus, seasonal vegetables, and a cheese trolley.

The Team

The founding gastronomic director was Carles Tejedor, who previously held a Michelin star at Via Veneto and taught at Harvard's Science and Cooking programme. Owner Joan Subirats Berenguer also operates El Nacional and Boca Grande. Tables feature thermal light technology to maintain meat at ideal temperature during service.
