The Story
Little Andaman was founded by Sanjay Das Gupta as the third Barcelona restaurant of Grupo Bembi, pioneers of quality Indian dining in the city since Bembi opened in 2005. Named after the Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal, it was scheduled to open in March 2020 but was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, opening later that year. The concept brings coastal Indian cuisine to Barcelona in an accessible, tapas-style format with a seafood focus.
The Cuisine
Executive chef Anand Singh Negi serves coastal Indian cuisine inspired by the regions of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal. Signature dishes include tandoori octopus (12.00 EUR), Kerala Boatmans' fish curry (14.00 EUR), India's version of nachos with house-made chutneys (8.50 EUR), and salmon and coconut curry (14.50 EUR). Menu of the Day from 12-14 EUR (Mon-Fri lunch). Tasting menus 32-36 EUR per person. Around 25 EUR per person a la carte without drinks.
The Team
Executive chef Anand Singh Negi trained in classical Indian cuisine at the Taj Hotels chain in India before working in London. Owner Sanjay Das Gupta founded Grupo Bembi after arriving in Barcelona from India. Restaurant manager Guillem Mas trained at CETT and previously worked at Alkimia, Abac, Hotel Arts, and Gaig.
