About Extra Bar

The Story

Extra Bar opened in April 2017 as the little sister of La Pubilla, created by owner Alexis Penalver. Conceived as a more casual, tapas-focused concept, the bar occupies a tiny space with just one high communal table, a small bar counter facing a minuscule open kitchen, and standing room for about six people at the entrance. The wine list is curated by Wine is Social, advised by Ferran Centelles, the former El Bulli sommelier and Best Sommelier in Spain 2006. Six wines rotate monthly, available by glass or bottle.

The Cuisine

The kitchen team serves creative Asian-Catalan fusion small plates from a daily-changing handwritten menu driven by market produce. Dishes include patatas ratte with alioli and tomato, croquetas de rostit, huevo frito with sobrasada and honey, tacos de calamar with sobrasada and lime, raviolis with Vietnamese pho broth, aguachile, and seasonal market specials. Around 30 EUR per person without drinks.

The Team

The kitchen team works under the direction of owner Alexis Penalver, who also runs La Pubilla. The tiny crew of two or three manages both kitchen and service in the intimate space. Google reviewers give it 4.8/5 from 596 reviews.
