Background

About Botafumeiro

The Story

Botafumeiro opened at Gran de Gràcia 81 in 1975 with a single idea: to bring Barcelona the best seafood from Galicia and the Mediterranean, faithful to the product and the trade. Half a century on, the wood-and-bronze dining room on Gran de Gràcia still reflects that founding brief, a classic Galician marisquería that grew up with the neighbourhood around it.

The Cuisine

A Galician and Mediterranean seafood kitchen running non-stop from noon to one in the morning. Shellfish, fish and crustaceans are selected daily from Galician and Catalan ports; the kitchen keeps the preparations classic, marisco natural or à la plancha, fish baked or grilled over holm-oak coals, seafood rices, and deep-flavoured stews. A seafood bar runs the length of the room, and private dining rooms are available alongside the main salon.

The Team

Botafumeiro is the life's work of Galician chef Moncho Neira, who founded the restaurant in 1975 and remains its alma mater. The kitchen team works around the same philosophy he set at the start: absolute respect for the raw material, product-first cooking without artifice, and an attention to detail that treats every plate as a small piece of craft.
