Original artworks by Miro, Dali, and Tapies line the walls, gifts from the artists who dined here.

Background

About Ca l'Isidre

The Story

Ca l'Isidre was founded in 1970 by Isidre Girones and his wife Montserrat in Barcelona's Raval neighbourhood. For over 50 years, Girones personally selected the finest products at La Boqueria market each morning. The restaurant became a pilgrimage site for gastronomes, politicians, and artists, King Juan Carlos, Ferran Adria, and the likes of Miro, Dali, and Tapies all dined here, with the artists gifting original works that now adorn the walls. Today, Isidre's daughter Nuria Girones directs the restaurant and serves as sommelier, while head chef Jordi Juan Santigosa leads the kitchen.

The Cuisine

Ca l'Isidre serves classic Catalan and Spanish seasonal cuisine rooted in exceptional market produce. The menu is built on restraint and respect for ingredients, long-cooked stews, truffle preparations, and market fish. Signature dishes include the Madrid-style tripe with chorizo and chickpeas, the Paul Bocuse-style black truffle soup, canelons al graten, oxtail with cabbage and truffle, seafood rice, and the celebrated crema catalana, among the best in Barcelona. The kitchen also excels at offal (lamb brains in black butter) and seasonal game. Repsol praises the cooking's quality-price balance.

The Team

Nuria Girones, daughter of founder Isidre Girones, directs the restaurant and curates the wine list. She trained in France and Switzerland and studied oenology. Head chef Jordi Juan Santigosa leads the kitchen. Dining room director Jose Millan oversees the attentive, professional service team. The combination of family tradition and professional rigour gives Ca l'Isidre its distinctive character.
