Background

About Arturo

The Story

Arturo was founded in 1972 by Arturo Jansá and his wife Eulàlia Canals as a vermouth bar serving canned olives and shellfish, after Arturo had worked at the nearby Liceu de Sants social club. As Eulàlia began cooking traditional home-style dishes, the bar evolved into a full restaurant anchored by charcoal-grilled meats and market-driven Catalan cooking. Today it is run by their children Anna and Carles Jansá, who carry on the family's commitment to simple, quality cooking and the warm neighbourhood welcome that Sants regulars have relied on for five decades.

The Cuisine

Arturo serves market-driven Catalan cuisine with a strong emphasis on seafood and grilled meats. The menu changes with the seasons and market availability, with highlights including cigrons amb calamarsons (chickpeas with baby squid), grilled octopus, grilled baby goat ribs, and the signature dry-aged txuletín and txuletón de vaca vella. Starters range roughly €8-14, seafood and meat mains €14-22, and the larger txuletón runs up to €68 for a 900g cut. Half portions are offered on many sharing plates.

The Team

Anna Jansá and Carles Jansá, the founders' children, run the front and back of house together. Anna describes her path into the profession as gradually following her mother's footsteps in the kitchen; Carles focuses on receiving guests and running service.
