Xiloteca Coffee + Botiga
Xiloteca is 'a shop with coffee' rather than a sit-down café: a tiny takeaway bar in El Born where founders Alexei Morales and Cameron Rosenbrock pour Zaragoza-roasted single origins beside shelves of ceramics, natural wine and tinned fish. Look for the hand-painted 'good coffee' sign on the corner of Carrer dels Assaonadors. Grab a cortado and browse the pottery.
Background
About Xiloteca Coffee + Botiga
The Story
Xiloteca is the kind of place that rewires how you think about a coffee shop. Founders Alexei Morales (originally from Cuba) and Cameron Rosenbrock (an Australian who worked in Melbourne venues before moving to Spain) built it as "a shop with coffee" rather than a sit-down café a response to Barcelona's restrictions on new hospitality licences and to their shared love of graphic design and locally made goods. So the beans aren't roasted here; the coffee comes from roasters in Zaragoza, poured as espresso and milk drinks over a tiny bar on the corner of Carrer dels Assaonadors in El Born, marked by a hand-painted "good coffee" sign. Two single origins usually run on espresso alongside a decaf, and the shelves behind you are stacked with colourful ceramic mugs and bowls, soaps, natural wines and tinned fish. It's takeaway-first a cortado in hand while you browse the pottery, not a place to settle in.

Xiloteca Coffee + Botiga Dining Experience
A petite, takeaway-first coffee bar on a corner of El Born, marked by a 'good coffee' sign, with room for little more than the coffee counter itself. Behind the bar, shelves double as a botiga (shop) lined with colourful ceramic mugs, jugs and bowls, soaps, natural wines and tinned fish. The focus is a properly made cup espresso and milk drinks from Zaragoza-roasted beans rather than a full café sit-down.
