Background

About Swagat

The Story

Swagat means 'welcome'. It's owned by Shibani Saigal, who has made traditional Indian cooking her life's work for more than 25 years, drawing on recipes inherited from her mother and on trips back to India. Her daughter Natasha now runs the room alongside her. The restaurant recently moved to new premises at the rear of Calle del Poeta Joan Maragall 19, keeping the same team.

The Cuisine

Traditional Indian, built around the tandoor: chicken tikka and other grills, curries made to your spice level such as butter chicken and chicken tikka masala, biryanis, naans and a wide spread of vegetarian dishes. The carta changes over time.

Menú and carta

From Tuesday to Friday there's a menú del día at €16 per person: a choice of three starters and three mains, with dessert and a drink. There's also a tasting menu. On the carta, tandoor dishes like chicken tikka are around €16, curries such as butter chicken around €16.50, and naans €4 to €5.50.

Terrace, events and delivery

The new premises have a terrace. Swagat also does catering, home delivery and takeaway, and puts together custom menus and decoration for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and other celebrations.
