Background
About Boccondivino
The Story
Boccondivino is the second life of one of Madrid's early serious Italian restaurants. Sardinian chef Ignazio Deias first opened it in 1999, with a high-end carta centred on his native Sardinia and a big Italian cellar, and it became one of the city's best-regarded Italians until the 2008 crisis forced it to close in 2011. Deias stayed in Madrid and kept cooking, opening the trattoria Da Giuseppina among other projects, and in 2022 he brought Boccondivino back on Calle Poeta Joan Maragall, the stretch once known as Capitán Haya, almost opposite the west front of the Ministry of Defence. It joined the Michelin Guide in September 2026, and the Guía Repsol lists it as Recomendado.
The Cuisine
Traditional Italian cooking from across the regions, with special attention to Piedmont and Sardinia. The second-era kitchen is deliberately homely: slow-simmered stews and sauces, no modern techniques, and dried pasta only, which Deias prefers for its bite and because it carries the sauce. Much of the produce is imported from Italy. There's a main carta and a separate terrace menu on the venue's own site.
The Carta
Antipasti come 'in order of temperature', many in half portions: real Bologna mortadella, coppa di Parma, 24-month Vacche Rosse Parmigiano, a Pugliese burrata with tomato, a beef carpaccio with the Harry's Bar sauce from Venice, a knife-cut fillet tartare with anchovy essence, a raw red-prawn and langoustine salad in the Sardinian style, Venetian sardines in saor, Piedmontese marinated rabbit, vitello tonnato, a whole Roman-style fried artichoke, and octopus alla Luciana. The pastas run from €15 to about €27: lasagna alla bolognese, garganelli with courgette pesto and mint, penne alla Norma, a Sardinian short pasta with fennel-seed sausage ragù and saffron, linguine with mullet bottarga and artichoke cream, linguine in red-prawn sauce, and tajarin with summer truffle. Mains, €26.95 to €29.95, are stews and classics: Roman coda alla vaccinara, farm chicken with peppers, Tuscan peposo, veal meatballs in Parmesan and truffle sauce, and a veal Milanese. Desserts include tiramisù, a Mantuan torta di rose with zabaglione and a Langhe hazelnut and cocoa cake.
The Cellar
The wine list is the other draw, and it's unapologetically Piedmontese: dozens of Barolos from La Morra, Monforte d'Alba, Serralunga and Castiglione Falletto, from about €69 into the hundreds, plus Barbaresco, Roero, Barbera and Nizza, among more than a hundred bottles in all. There's a good range of grappas to finish.

Experience
Boccondivino Dining Experience
Quiet, and intimate in the sense of a room you can hear yourself in: two bright, separate dining rooms that seat 28 between them, a number the house keeps deliberately small. Service comes across as attentive and polished, the cooking is traditional rather than reinvented, and there's a terrace for most of the year.

Castillejos is northern, plain and residential, and the restaurants are the reason to be there rather than the scenery. The cooking is honest and regional, at prices that would be higher further south. Estadio Santiago Bernabéu and Cuatro Torres Business Area loom over the whole area.
