The Story
Grupo Saona began in March 2013 with a small café-style restaurant on Gran Vía Marqués del Turia in Valencia, with a carta written by its founder, Gonzalo Calvo. Its first Madrid restaurant, Saona Balboa, opened in February 2018, and the group has since grown across Spain, with restaurants from Valencia and Madrid to Barcelona, Bilbao and Zaragoza. This one sits inside the NH Zurbano hotel.
The Cuisine
Mediterranean cooking with a playful streak: sharing plates, salads, rice dishes and international touches like vegetable gyozas, tacos al pastor and chicken karaage.
How the menus work
The core offer is a set menu of starter, main and dessert or coffee, with separate menus for weekday lunch, Friday lunch, weekend lunch and different nights of the week. A Mediterranean menu built around the group's traditional rice dishes runs on Fridays, weekends and holidays, and there are tasting menus, a 'picoteo' sharing menu at night, group menus and a children's menu.
