Background
About La Vasco Andaluza
The Story
La Vasco Andaluza is the long-held dream of Ángel Perea del Pino, a businessman who had always sat on the diner's side of the table and in mid-2023 decided to open a restaurant. He brought in a team with experience in Basque and Andalusian restaurants: Soraya Santiesteban, with Málaga roots and years managing Basque restaurants in Madrid, runs the dining room and the wine, and Venezuelan-Spanish chef Leandro 'Leo' González, trained in Venezuela and Peru, runs the kitchen.
The Cuisine
Basque and Andalusian side by side: pilpil and txuletón from the north, fried fish and Málaga salad from the south.
The carta
Hot starters include artichoke flowers stuffed with pisto (€20), a loose morcilla tortilla with piparras (€19.50) and a cod tortilla with pilpil and piperrada (€20). From the south come chipirones a la andaluza (€26), a house fritura (€18 half, €30 whole) and a Málaga salad of cod and orange (€18). Croquetas run from €2 (spinach and pine nut) to €4.50 (jamón de bellota), and the grill side goes up to bacalao al pilpil at €28 and a 30-day matured txuletón at €67 a kilo for two.
Breakfast and the weekday menú
From Tuesday to Saturday, 08:00 to 12:00, breakfasts come with coffee: churros or porras with coffee for €3, tostadas with tomato and ibérico ham, molletes and sandwiches. From Tuesday to Friday, lunch and dinner, a set menú at €18.90 brings a choice of three starters and three mains, dessert, coffee and a drink, with cocido vitoriano on Fridays.
