Background

About Mítiko

The Story

Mítiko belongs to Lulú Zheng and Víctor Chen, whose Madrid restaurants include Le Chinois and Preciados 33. It started out as a Japanese restaurant; in 2024 the partners changed course and brought in Jorge Rodríguez to reinvent it as Nikkei. Rodríguez, born in Cajabamba in 1988, grew up on a farm in the northern Peruvian Andes and was cooking for his family by 12. He learned in Lima alongside an uncle who had cooked in hotels, worked for chains including Hilton and Accor, moved to Spain in 2017, cooked at Tiradito in Conde Duque, and in 2022 founded Latigazo, a dinner show in Chueca, where Zheng first ate his food.

The Cuisine

Nikkei: traditional Japanese technique with Peruvian ingredients, from ceviches and tiraditos to makis, nigiri, robata skewers and wok dishes.

The Carta

To start: zamburiñas with ají amarillo leche de tigre and miso butter (€12.50 for two), the cevichero, a tartar of Balfegó toro over sushi rice with yuzu gel (€27), tempura tiger prawns, a steak tartare of aged beef, anticucho beef and prawn skewers, shrimp gyozas in chupe sauce and siu mai. The ceviches are €26–27: classic corvina with ají charapita and sweet potato, the Mítiko with prawn and squid, and a kato with tempura squid. Tiraditos include the kemuri of hamachi with truffle and miso, the nipón of sea bass with purple corn and kimchi, and an O-toro of Balfegó belly. The makis, €21 each, include the smoked maki of aged picaña with anticuchera sauce, a favourite of regulars, the cevichero and a saiko miso salmon tartar.

Mi Lunch Ejecutivo

Monday to Friday from 13:00 to 16:00 (not holidays), the executive lunch is €16.90 with a drink: a starter such as nikkei nigiri, chicken anticucho, siu mai or santoichi pork belly, then a main such as crab maki, fried rice with crispy pork belly, chifa yakisoba with prawns or a vegetarian rice, and cheesecake, ice cream or coffee. Some dishes carry a small supplement, such as the classic ceviche (+€5).

Getting There

On Calle Sor Angela de la Cruz in the Castillejos area of Madrid's Tetuan district, near the Santiago Bernabeu.

Nearby

Castillejos is northern, plain and residential, and the restaurants are the reason to be there rather than the scenery. The cooking is honest and regional, at prices that would be higher further south. Estadio Santiago Bernabéu and Cuatro Torres Business Area loom over the whole area.
