Kasanova is an Italian restaurant on Calle del Alcalde Sainz de Baranda, in the Ibiza area of Retiro, and it holds a Solete in the Guía Repsol, which praises its quality pasta, a broad, well-priced champagne list and probably one of the best selections of spirits in the city. There are three spaces: a lounge bar with a glassed-in wine cellar, the restaurant, and a 'boulevard' terrace among the trees. The carta runs from burrata, vitello tonnato and carpaccios to fresh and stuffed pastas, pizzas and homemade tiramisù, and it serves lunch and dinner every day.

Background

About Kasanova

The Story

Kasanova is a neighbourhood Italian in the Ibiza barrio of Retiro that doubles as a cocktail and spirits bar. It holds a Solete in the Guía Repsol's autumn 2023 round, which singled out its pasta, its champagne list and the depth of its spirits.

The Cuisine

Italian: antipasti such as provolone, aubergine parmigiana, boletus and truffle croquettes, carpaccios of beef and octopus, vitello tonnato and burrata di Puglia; fresh pastas and stuffed pastas; a list of pizzas; and desserts like homemade tiramisù and a millefoglie soaked in Zacapa rum.

What to Order

The Guía Repsol's pick is the linguine with truffle cream. Other fresh pastas include spaghetti alle vongole, aglio, olio e peperoncino, and two carbonaras, a classic and an 'original' with pork cheek and free-range egg. Stuffed pastas range from lunette with cheese and black truffle to fagottini of cheese and pear with gorgonzola, foie and porcini lunette and mushroom panzerotti. Pizzas go from Margherita and Diavola to a boletus pizza and a black-truffle Tartufata.

The Bar

Kasanova's drinks list is a draw in its own right, with a broad champagne selection at fair prices and an extensive range of whiskies, rums, gins and vodkas; desserts even include sorbets laced with bourbon or aged rum. The lounge bar is the place for a drink or a lighter meal.

Getting There

It's at Calle del Alcalde Sainz de Baranda 44, in the Ibiza barrio of Madrid's Retiro district.

Nearby

Ibiza is the residential edge of Parque del Buen Retiro, and it eats like a neighbourhood that does not need to impress anyone. The rooms are taverns, grills and seafood done properly, at prices that reflect regulars rather than visitors. Palacio de Cristal and the park are the reason to come early.
