Background

About Italian Friends

The Story

Italian Friends grew out of three Italian friends with roots in Puglia and Calabria, brought together by pizza, good food and the pleasure of sharing a table. One of them makes pizza by trade; the others fell for it bite by bite, and the idea became bringing a homemade pizza with the soul of southern Italy to a Madrid neighbourhood. The name, they say, comes from the way they call everyone 'my friend'.

The Cuisine

Southern Italian pizza, with antipasti to share served with herb pizza bread.

Antipasti and Pizzas

Antipasti come with herb pizza bread: the Divina Commedia of tomato, nduja and burrata (€10.90), the Amor de Queso with gorgonzola, smoked scamorza, mozzarella and pecorino, and a burrata salad with pesto and cherry tomatoes. The traditional pizzas run from a margherita (€11.90) through romana, prosciutto e funghi and quattro formaggi to a capricciosa; the 'Italia in tavola' list adds a marinara del sud with anchovies, the Regina Sbagliata with pecorino and basil pesto, a calzone, a smoky fumé, a veggie, an amatriciana with guanciale and a mediterranea with tuna, from €11.90 to €14.90.

Weekday Lunch

Tuesday to Friday at lunch, holidays excluded, there's a pizza-and-drink deal: €11.90 for a classic like the margherita or diavola, €13.90 for a premium such as prosciutto e funghi or amatriciana, and €15.90 for the fullest ones, like the quattro formaggi or the Kalavria. Dessert of the day adds €4.90 and a coffee €1.50.
