Fratelli Figurato is a small Neapolitan pizzeria at Alonso Cano 37, in Chamberí, opened by two brothers from Naples, chef Riccardo Figurato and Vittorio, who left careers in marketing and business to bring Italy's popular cooking to Spain. It holds a Solete in the Guía Repsol as a favourite of two top chefs: Toño Pérez of Atrio calls it his favourite pizzeria when relaxing in Madrid, and Paco Roncero praises its spectacular dough. Pizzas are built around DOP and Slow Food ingredients, from the Classica margherita to the guide's pick, the Amatrice al Sole, with Italian desserts and a sister trattoria in Centro.

Background

About Fratelli Figurato

The Story

Riccardo and Vittorio Figurato are two Neapolitan brothers with a strong passion for Italian food who left their careers in marketing and business to follow a dream: bringing Italian popular food to Spain, from Neapolitan pizza to fresh pasta made daily and the most traditional recipes of Italian grandmothers. Besides this pizzeria, their family of restaurants includes Fratelli Figurato Trattoria Popolare, with fresh handmade pasta, and a pizzeria focused on Neapolitan fritti. The Chamberí pizzeria holds a Solete in the Guía Repsol.

The Cuisine

Neapolitan pizza, traditional in style with creative specials, built on DOP and Slow Food ingredients and Italian products such as tomato sauce from Italy, plus Italian desserts and wines. Vegetarian options are on the menu.

What to Order

Toño Pérez sticks to the margherita, the Classica here (from €12.90); the Guía Repsol recommends the Amatrice al Sole. Other house pizzas include the 'Andavo a 10 all'ora' and the Diavola de León, and over the years the brothers have put creative combinations like mortadella and pistachio or Calabrian 'nduja with burrata on the menu. For dessert there's the 'Tiramisù della mamma' and Sicilian cannoli.

Wine and Booking

The wine list is Italian, and the brothers have made a point of letting guests try pricier wines by the glass or in half-bottle carafes. The pizzeria opens every day for lunch (13:30 to 16:30, until 17:00 Friday to Sunday) and dinner (20:00 to 23:30). Book online ahead, especially at weekends.

Fratelli Figurato Dining Experience

A small, cosy room that aims to recreate a pizzeria in the backstreets of Naples: casual, family-friendly and loud in the good way once it fills up. It's often hard to book.

Getting There

Alonso Cano 37, in the Chamberí district of Madrid.

Nearby

Chamberí is an elegant, residential district north of the centre, quieter and more grown-up than Malasaña or Chueca. Calle de Ponzano cuts through it as one of the city's best-known tapeo streets, and the surrounding blocks mix classic bakeries and neighbourhood bars with a wave of newer, more ambitious kitchens.
