Background

About Casa Ponzano

The Story

Casa Ponzano started from a simple idea, in the house's own words: cook the way we'd like to be cooked for. It buys from nearby markets every day, keeps recipes everyone recognises, and pours a personal list of small wineries from Rioja Alavesa, Ribera, Rueda and Galicia. Some dishes stay all year, the huevos rotos, croquetas, cachopo and Lotus cake, while others come and go with the season.

The Cuisine

Mediterranean cooking, traditional and ingredient-led rather than experimental. The full carta is published on the venue's own site.

The Carta

The September 2026 carta is split five ways. To pick at: a Fuenterrabía gilda, an artichoke flower with Iberian ham, Idiazabal buñuelos, bravas Casa Ponzano style (€11.90), croquetas of ham or chop, truffled tortilla made to order, a Joselito sobrasada bikini with comté, torreznos on revolconas and huevos rotos with garlic prawns (€17.90). The 'Lingotes de Ponzano' are a foie turrón with caramelised apple and a hand-cut steak tartare on puff pastry, €20.90 for both. Hearty plates run from a dry-aged burger and soldaditos de pavía to carrilleras in amontillado, turbot with prawns and clams, the cachopo with ham and blue cheese (€29.90) and a 350 g Galician entrecôte. All desserts are €7.90, Lotus caramel cake included.

Getting There

Calle de Bretón de los Herreros 29, in Chamberí, two minutes on foot from Calle Ponzano; Alonso Cano and Ríos Rosas metro stations are close by.

Nearby

Ríos Rosas is a working residential grid north of the old centre, where restaurants answer to the people who live there rather than to visitors. It sits nearer Estadio Santiago Bernabéu than anything touristic, and the eating is unhurried, mid-priced and quietly confident. This is where you go for a proper lunch without theatre.
