Background

About Falafeleria

The Story

Falafeleria starts each morning with crates of fresh vegetables and makes its falafel mix from scratch, with no shortcuts. It grew in Madrid to two shops, here on Calle de Santa Bárbara and on Calle de Santa Isabel in Lavapiés, and now offers its format to franchisees.

The Cuisine

Vegetarian Middle Eastern street food: falafel, sabich, mushroom shawarma, hummus and mezze.

How the menu works

First pick the filling: falafel (€8.50), sabij with fried aubergine and boiled egg (€9.50), crunchy cauliflower (€9.90) or a shawarma of mushrooms and seitan with almonds, raisins and ras el hanut (€9.90). Then choose pita, or a bowl over mujaddara, rice with lentils (+€1), and add toppings at the counter. Hummus plates run €9.90 to €10.90, za'atar-and-sumac fries are €5.90, and there's house lemonade, kombucha, beer and wine, with Medjool dates in chocolate or halva to finish.

Getting There

Calle de Santa Bárbara 4, in Malasaña, a few minutes' walk from Tribunal (L1/L10) and Chueca (L5) metro.

Nearby

Malasaña is where the city keeps its energy, a tight web of streets that turns over fast and stays up late. The eating is young and restless, with vegan kitchens, coffee bars and creative rooms wedged between places that have not changed in decades. It runs down to Gran Vía, and it rewards walking without a plan.
