About Cafés La Mexicana
The Story
CafĂ©s La Mexicana opened at Calle Preciados 24 in 1890. The house story goes that a woman of Mexican origin came to Madrid, bought the premises and set out to find who roasted the best coffee in the city; the answer was JosĂ© RodrĂguez, a self-taught roaster, and the business passed to the RodrĂguez family while keeping the name La Mexicana. It is listed among Madrid's centenary establishments, and the Preciados shop remains the flagship of a group that had 16 shops by 2020.
The Cuisine
Freshly roasted coffee: classic house blends like its natural-roast Colombia next to single origins such as Colombian Nariño, Ethiopian Sidamo, Kenya AA and Burundi, plus mugs, flasks and coffee gifts. Coffee to go is served from a street window.

It's on Calle Preciados, 24, in the Sol neighbourhood of Madrid's Centro district.
Nearby
Sol is the dead centre of the city and behaves like it, busy and walked through by everyone heading somewhere else. The trick is knowing which doors are worth stopping at, because rooms built for visitors sit right beside ones locals have used for decades. CĂrculo de Bellas Artes and Edificio MetrĂłpolis mark the smarter edge, towards Chueca.
