Background
About La Garriga
The Story
La Garriga was founded in 1959 in Tenerife by Joan Pedró Satorres, with a format that was new at the time: a charcutería where you could both eat the products and buy them to take home, selling Ibérico embutidos, all kinds of morcilla, Vic longaniza and artisan cheeses. Shops followed in Las Palmas (1965), Sitges (1968), the Paseo de la Castellana in Madrid (1971) and Zaragoza (1978). Josep Pedró and Maria Subirats consolidated the business, and today the three Pedró Subirats siblings, the third generation, run the two remaining shops, here and in Barcelona. It holds a Solete in the Guía Repsol.
The Cuisine
Catalan and Spanish, sold over a counter. Ibéricos lead it, with jamón de bellota and embutidos named as the most representative products, and bocadillos alongside: butifarra, ham, pan con tomate, small pulgas and chapatas, with croquetas and tortilla and coffee first thing. Around that sits a delicatessen selection, savoury and sweet, plus a bodega of wines, spirits, cavas and champagne, and a glass of cava is part of the ritual for plenty of regulars.

La Garriga Dining Experience
Half shop, half counter: the ibéricos and charcuterie are on display in the same room you eat in, with the wine, cava and champagne behind as a bodega you can buy from. It runs on morning coffee, office lunches and early-evening bites, and a glass of cava with a pulguita is part of the ritual for plenty of regulars.

Paseo de la Castellana 153, 28046 Madrid, in the Tetuán district, in the Castillejos barrio.
Nearby
Castillejos is northern, plain and residential, and the restaurants are the reason to be there rather than the scenery. The cooking is honest and regional, at prices that would be higher further south. Estadio Santiago Bernabéu and Cuatro Torres Business Area loom over the whole area.
