Background
About Casa Mùi
The Story
Casa Mui sits on Calle Puerto Rico in Hispanoamérica, the comfortable residential grid of northern Madrid near the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. Two friends opened it in December 2021: the chef, Alberto Álvarez, and his partner Ricardo Sanz, who runs an estate agency and spent the first year pulling beers and serving tables after the day job. Mùi is Vietnamese for coriander, and also aroma, which fits: the herb goes into almost everything on the carta. It holds a Repsol Solete, the Guía Repsol's distinction for casual and neighbourhood-level quality.
The Cuisine
Southeast Asian cooking fused with Mediterranean and Latin flavours, in the venue's own framing: a sensory trip through the Sudeste Asiático crossed with the emblematic tastes of the Mediterranean, cooked in a modern, creative style. The carta includes fried aubergine, pad thai with king prawn, red curry with carrillera, bao (including a crab one), fresh Vietnamese rolls, dumplings and Szechuan quail. The carta is on the venue's own site.

Cosy rather than showy, with modern, creative cooking. Service comes across as attentive and warm at the same time. The price feel is fair rather than a splurge, and there's a terrace for when the weather allows it.
