Background
About Sun Taka
The Story
Sun Taka is the izakaya of Osaka-born chef Mitsutaka Kawata, known as 'Taka'. He trained for eight years under Chef Nakamura at Wayo Yuzen Nakamura in Osaka, then worked in Spain at Baluarte, Can Fabes in Sant Celoni and Hotel Ferrero before running the sushi bar at Cercle d'Artistes in Barcelona for over five years. He opened Sun Taka on Carrer de Bruc as his own take on izakaya, the Japanese neighbourhood tavern.
The Cuisine
Izakaya-style Japanese cooking with a broad carta: fish, seafood, sushi, meat and wagyu A5, ingredient-led and seasonal in the traditional Japanese manner. The sushi counter is the focal point, with Taka working the bar himself. The menu is organised into Sugerencias, Carta, Bodega (wines and sake) and Postres, though dish-level content is not published online. Average spend €55 per person without drinks.
The Team
Chef-owner Mitsutaka Kawata runs the kitchen alongside a team of Japanese cooks. Kawata is an ambassador of the Cook & Chef Institute. The focus is on product, precise knife work at the counter, and consistency across services.
