Embat opened in 2007, founded by Barcelona-born chef Santi Rebes, who trained at the Escola Superior d'Hosteleria Sant Ignasi, studied fine dining in the Netherlands, and later became head pastry chef and instructor at Espai Sucre pastry school. Embat was one of Barcelona's first bistronomic restaurants, pioneering the movement of offering creative, high-quality cuisine in a casual, affordable setting. After more than 17 years, the restaurant continues to cook with the same detail and affection.
