Background

About Mordisco

The Story

Mordisco was founded in 1987 by Rosa Maria Esteva and her son Tomás Tarruella as a simple restaurant offering sandwiches, homemade food, and salads with shared tables near Passeig de Gràcia -- a concept ahead of its time. It became an iconic meeting point in 1980s designer Barcelona, frequented by creatives, journalists, artists, and writers. The success led to Grupo Tragaluz, now one of Barcelona's most important restaurant groups. After the original location closed for Hotel Omm, Mordisco reopened in 2010 at its current Passatge de la Concepció address, redesigned by Sandra Tarruella.

The Cuisine

Chef Rubén, who has been with the team for over 30 years, serves Mediterranean market cuisine based on Rosa Esteva's traditional recipes, complemented by seasonal suggestions and daily specials. Non-stop kitchen service all day. The restaurant also has a delicatessen shop selling wines, preserves, cheeses, cured meats, and organic vegetables. Around 35 EUR per person without drinks.

The Team

Chef Rubén has been with Mordisco for over three decades since the restaurant's early days. Founders Rosa Maria Esteva and Tomás Tarruella also created Grupo Tragaluz, which now includes Tragaluz, Agua, El Japonés, Bestial, and many more. Google reviewers give it 4.0/5 from 2,162 reviews.
