Background

About El Quim de La Boqueria

The Story

El Quim de La Boqueria has been at Local 606 in the Mercat de La Boqueria since 1987, the year Quim Márquez set up his bar at the market and began using La Boqueria as his larder. The concept is simple and remains unchanged: the best produce from the stalls around him, prepared at a bar with no table service and no reservations. Second chef Yuri Márquez, trained at the Boqueria bar and in Beijing, is the next generation of the kitchen.

The Cuisine

Catalan market cuisine built around La Boqueria's produce. The kitchen covers patatas bravas, croquetas, breakfast, pintxos and small plates, traditional stew dishes, and sandwiches. The kitchen's identity is Quim Márquez's ability to transform market produce into gastronomy: fried eggs with whitebait, capipota, market-fresh fish and seafood preparations, and a breakfast programme from 7am on market days. Average spend approximately €35 per person.

The Team

El Quim de La Boqueria is run by Quim Márquez, chef and owner since 1987, with over 25 years behind the stoves, the restaurant's website notes that 'with a couple of eggs, he prepares a sublime breakfast, and with all the produce of the Boqueria has transformed typical market tapas into gastronomic art.' Second chef Yuri Márquez (trained at the Boqueria bar and in Beijing) represents the next generation of the kitchen.

El Quim de La Boqueria Dining Experience

A bar at Local 606 in the Mercat de La Boqueria, the oldest market-bar format in Barcelona's most famous food market. The feel is homey, charming, and bar-focused. Lively energy, casual-industrial, walk-in friendly; service is efficient, attentive, and relaxed.
