Background

About Casa Masana

The Story

Casa Masana opened in 1996 as a fleca (traditional Catalan bakery) in the Sant Antoni neighbourhood, run by Josep Masana and Carme Jovell with a wood-fired oven at its heart. Wood-fired pizzas became the signature, and after studying charcoal-grilling techniques in Catalan farmhouses the couple converted the business into a brasería at its current Balmes and Rosselló corner, where it has been running Josper charcoal ovens for over a decade.

The Cuisine

The kitchen revolves around the Josper charcoal oven and a stone pizza oven. Expect grilled vegetables (calçots in season), charcoal-grilled meats and fish, burgers off the Josper, wood-fired pizzas, Catalan classics such as canelones with bechamel and fricandó with mushrooms, and traditional desserts like crema catalana, homemade flan and cardinal of chocolate.

The Team

Casa Masana is a family business founded and still led by Josep Masana and Carme Jovell, with a kitchen built around artisan preparation and a front-of-house geared toward groups, family gatherings and neighbourhood regulars.
