Background

About Bodega Quimet

The Story

Bar Bodega Quimet was founded in 1954 by the Quimet family on Carrer de Vic in Gràcia, and passed in 2010 to the Montero brothers, who have kept the original tavern's gastronomy and philosophy intact. The space preserves its hydraulic tile floors, wooden wine barrels stacked above the bar, white marble tables and historical decoration, vintage posters, old vermouth advertisements and framed press clippings line the yellow walls. It remains a neighbourhood bodega for vermouth, tapas and long conversations with regulars.

The Cuisine

The kitchen focuses on traditional tapas built to accompany the bodega's award-winning homemade vermouth: Cantabrian and pickled anchovies, oysters, gildas, Iberian charcuterie, ensaladilla rusa, escalivada with anchovies, octopus a la gallega and confit tomato with capers and anchovy. A short list of stews and casseroles, veal cheek, fricandó, chickpeas with spinach, rounds out the offering at lunch.

The Team

The Montero brothers have run Bodega Quimet since 2010, maintaining the tavern's long-standing identity rather than remaking it. There is no named head chef in the kitchen; the team operates in the collaborative spirit of a traditional family bodega.
