Bar Escoces was founded in 1955 by a businessman who had made his fortune in the Americas. In the 1960s, a Scottish owner took over and gave it its name, transforming it into a meeting point for Barcelona's Scottish community and literary figures including Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Juan Marse. In 1976, Jose Lopez acquired the establishment and preserved its character. Today his son Miguel Lopez runs it as a second-generation family business. The bar underwent a significant renovation in September 2024, with more elegant decor while preserving its spirit. Over 70 years of continuous operation.
